(If you want to create a fully installable floppy disk version of the contents of this CD, see the Read Me file in the Disk Images folder.)
What Comes With Informed Designer
This CD version of Informed Designer version 1.4.3, contains all the software, instructions, and extras (such as sample forms and AppleScripts) you need to create intelligent forms that look professionally designed. In addition to the Informed software, QuickTime¬ version 2.0 is included to allow you to view the Informed¿ Interactive presentations. AppleScript version 1.1, the powerful Macintosh scripting language that allows you to automate many of the tasks in Informed Manager, is also included. The Adobe¬ Acrobat Reader version 2.0, is provided to allow you to view and print the online manuals and product information.
Viewing the Informed Interactive Presentations
To view the Informed Interactive presentations, you must have QuickTime version 2.0 installed on your computer. Even if you already have QuickTime version 2.0 installed, we recommend that you install the version located in the QuickTime¬ folder on the CD. This version installs the Apple Multimedia Tuner 2.0, which contains bug fixes and allows for a much smoother viewing of the presentations.
Note: QuickTime 2.0 does not function properly when Virtual Memory is turned on. Therefore, to view the Informed Interactive presentations without interruption, you must turn off Virtual Memory. To turn off Virtual Memory, first display the Memory control panel, then click the Off button in the Virtual Memory section of the panel. When you have turned off Virtual Memory, close the Memory control panel.
Installation
The installation of Informed Designer is an easy, almost automatic process. There are two ways to begin the installation. You can click Install Informed Designer¬ on the Installation Options screen of the interactive presentation, or you can double-click the Informed¿ Installer icon which is located in the Informed¿ folder on the CD (If the folder is not visible, scroll to locate it). During the installation you are presented with two options╨Easy Install or Custom Install. Easy Install installs all the software and files you need to use Informed Designer. Custom Install allows you to choose the items you want installed. Some of the items you can install include the Online manuals, and a large number of Informed Extras. For information on what each item you can install is, click the information button beside the item on the installation dialog.
Registering Informed Designer
Each time you start Informed Designer, the welcome screen and four screens of product information are displayed. Clicking the Register Now button on the Welcome screen provides an easy way to register your copy of Informed Designer. You can call us toll free at 1-800-386-7244 with your registration information, or you can fax or mail the Registration Form to us. When you register, you╒ll be entitled to free support credits, a free newsletter, and information on updates and new products. Once you have registered with Shana and entered your serial number, the welcome screen and four screens of product information will no longer be displayed on startup. For complete registration instructions, see the 1.4.3 Addendum located in the Online Manuals folder.
Online Documentation
The Online Manuals folder on the CD contains Informed Designer╒s reference manuals. The manuals contain approximately 1,000 pages of detailed information. If you want a quick introduction on how easy Informed Designer is to use, and how powerful its feature set is, read the Quick Start Guide located in the Quick Start folder (which is installed in the Informed¿ folder). To read the manuals, you must install Acrobat Reader. Once you╒ve installed Acrobat Reader, you can view and print the manuals without copying them to your hard disk. The Acrobat Reader Installer (called ╥AcroRead.mac╙) can be found on the CD in the Adobe Acrobat folder. Acrobat Reader requires System 7.
If ATM version 3.6 or 3.6.1 is running on your system, you may see a message at startup (when ATM attempts to load) that font substitution will not occur until you personalize ATM with a serial number. Also, Acrobat Reader 2.0 will not launch because font substitution is not available. Note, this will not occur if SuperATM or Acrobat 1.0 had previously been installed on your system; it only manifests itself when ATM version 3.6 is running alone. The workaround is to personalize ATM (by opening the ATM control panel) using the serial number ARW100R3100313-050-187 or to delete the older version of ATM and replace it with ATM LE. For instructions on how to replace ATM with ATM LE see the read me file ReadMe-Reader which is located in the Adobe Acrobat folder.
Note: If you would like to order printed versions of the online manuals, call Shana toll free at 1-800-386-7244.
